Just to be clear on this, the following are some facts that I gathered over the years. Some are rarely new and some are pretty old. Some you may already know and some will be new for you. Either case I think these are somehow interesting facts. I like music as much as the next guy but I’m really interested in the history behind it. I remember release dates for songs since 1995. I don’t know how I do it or why I can remember these things. You can call it a gift or an ability to remember useless information. My friends call it a waste of time :P Anywho, most of the points were cross referenced with Wikipedia to make sure that that it was real (As real as Wikipedia can get that is). The list is somehow big and hope you do learn a few things. Keep reading for the list!There is no particular order for these facts. Just tried to group together facts and genre of music. In addition to these facts, I added some links to youtube to check the referenced songs.

  • Gouryella was actually DJ Tiesto and Ferry Corsten (youtube)
  • Ferry Corsten is also known as System F
  • Daft Punk got most of their samples from previous songs (youtube)
  • Gabriel and Dresden released ‘As The Rush Comes’ under the name “Motorcycle” (youtube)
  • Conjure One was headed by a previous member of Delirium (youtube)
  • Rollo Armstrong from Faithless is Dido’s brother. Rollo is the guy you NEVER see on the video clips
  • Dido did vocals on some of Faithless’ songs (youtube)
  • Dido’s full name is “Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O’Malley Armstrong”. Stick to Dido :P
  • Faithless remixed a couple of Dido’s songs
  • Armand Van Helden’s song ‘Koochy’, used sample from ‘Cars’ by Gary Numan (youtube, youtube)
  • Yves Larock, Bob Sinclar, David Guetta, Martin Solveig and many other were part of the ‘Africanism’ Project.
  • Many songs were released under the name Africanism. One of them was ‘Summer Moon’ and was a collaboration with David Guetta and Bob Sinclar (youtube)
  • DJ Jurgen was part of Alice Deejay (youtube)
  • Peter Luts was part of ‘Lasgo’ and also part of ‘Ian Van Dahl’ (youtube, youtube)
  • “Toca’s Miracle” by Fragma is actually a mashup of ‘I Need A Miracle’ by Coco and ‘Toca Me’ by Fragma
  • The Tamperer’s song ‘Feel it’, had samples from The Jacksons’ “Can you feel it” (youtube, youtube)
  • Epple by Röyksopp was used as a welcoming sound in Apple’s Mac OS X (Panther)
  • Mutya Buena from ‘Sugababes’ did the vocals in Groove Armada’s ‘Song 4 Mutya’ (youtube)
  • Groove Armada’s ‘At the river’ was used in Marks & Spencer Food UK television campaign (youtube)
  • Fatboy Slim is not fat at all :P
  • Fatboy Slim’s ‘Weapon Of Choice’ video clip, featured Christopher Walken… dancing! (youtube)
  • Jack Black is the 50% of Tenacious D. The other 50% is Kyle Gass
  • Tenacious D’s ‘Tribute’ video clip featured ‘Dave Grohl’ (lead singer) from Foo Fighters…as the devil (youtube)
  • The same video clip also had another cameo appearance by Ben Stiller
  • Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters started as a drummer of ‘Nirvana’
  • Foo Fighter’s ‘Learn to Fly’ video clip featured both members of Tenacious D (youtube)
  • Alanis Morissette did a cover of ‘My Humps’ by Black Eyed Peas. Fergie liked it! (youtube, Fergie’s responce)
  • OK Go’s video clip of ‘Here it goes again’ became a huge hit in YouTube and that made them really famous (youtube)
