Well today Apple made another big announcement. They released their known browser, Safari 3, to Windows platforms. It is still in Beta but it works. This was a big step from Apple and apparently they have their reasons. One might say that they made this release to gain more audience for their upcoming mobile phone, the iPhone since it comes with Safari preinstalled. Others say that this will again help more developers to build applications using Safari’s engine. From my point of view this means more and more Windows users might use Safari so it is my responsibility to make sure that my website is compatible with Safari as well. I downloaded the Windows version of Safari and I noticed that they tried to be as faithful as the original software running natively on a Mac. Even the window animations on the properties and messages reminded me of a mac. The rendering is quite good and fast. Apparently though there are some bugs and some pages are rendered unexpectedly. As a developer though I had to make sure my website works as expected. So I did some updates on the images and colors of this site (mostly through CSS) and managed to make this website 99.9% compatible with Safari. The 99.9% is because I used a free web based service that renders a page in Safari and produces a screenshot of the results. I’m very pleased with the result but I will feel better when the Windows version of Safari comes to a final release with all the bugs fixed. Then I can sleep better at night :P
